I have successfully reduced the size of the new Intel Chipset Device Software installers from 106 MB to just 5 MB.

In short: up to version 10.1.20314.8688, a small EXE installer was used. Starting from version 10.1.20378.8757, a huge installer appeared, which internally contains two 10 MB MSI installers (for x64 and x86 systems) and the .NET Framework 4.7.2 package installer. Below is the link to the latest MSI installer – after extraction.

Download:  intel_chipset_10.1.20404.8794.zip (5MB)

Please note that the reduced size installer is (probably) English-only and intended for 64-bit (x64) systems.

In the near future, I will add the new Intel MSI installers to my Universal Chipset Device Software project.
If you want to learn how to reduce the size of the new installers yourself, please check out my article:  Change in Intel Chipset Software installer

This chipset software is clearly intended mainly for modern platforms from the last ~5 years, which in practice means Windows 11 and sometimes Windows 10.
Both operating systems already ship with .NET Framework 4.8 / 4.8.1 built into the OS, and .NET 4.7.2 cannot even be installed there — it is simply ignored because a newer version is already present.

At the same time, these new chipset packages don’t actually install anything on older systems anyway. They may look like they update INF files, but in reality the packages only contain data for relatively recent Intel platforms. On older systems, nothing meaningful gets installed.

So we end up in a bizarre situation:
  • old systems → nothing gets installed
  • new systems → .NET 4.7.2 is completely pointless
  • installer size → over 100× larger than the actual content it deploys
And let’s be honest — no one running a modern Intel platform in 2026 is using Windows 7 or 8.1, and even if they were, these packages wouldn’t help them anyway.
